What makes good cycling accommodation?

When travelling for an event or holiday with equipment worth a lot of money, what someone is looking for in accommodation may differ from the usual room, location & breakfast. Quite often a bike is more than just a hobby to a cyclist & can be an investment of thousands of pounds. We see an opportunity to tailor the accommodation beyond the standard offering, to specifically meet the needs of cyclists and protect their pride and joy!

Through research with cyclists who use accommodation in the UK for events or holidays, we’ve identified a list of criteria which makes accommodation more attractive. The idea is that when we go live, these will be listed on the hotel page to give users a quick reference point, to ensure the accommodation is going to meet their needs. The criteria we have identified is:

  • Carb Loading  Evening Menu

  • Early Breakfast

  • Packed Breakfast

  • Secure Bike Store

  • Bike Washing

  • Nutrition on sale

  • Drying Room

  • Laundry Services

  • Tools

  • Parts & Spares

  • Local Cycling Trails

  • Local Cycle Shops

How many of these do you currently provide?

How many can you easily implement?

Do you know of any annual events, or local trails near you?

Is there something we’re missing?

We are obviously very much aware that we are in uncertain times but the already growing industry of cycling will continue to prosper. We believe holidaying habits will change as part of huge social shift following the COVID-19 pandemic, and we want to help accommodation providers prepare for this relatively untapped demographic when the time comes for people to explore again.
